This 15th Century castle was built to defend the Tay estuary. During the 18th Century it fell into ruin, to be rebuilt in the 1860's as part of the Crimean War effort. Today, it houses fascinating displays on Dundee's whaling history, arms and armour.
Open: Apr-Sep, Mon-Sat, 10am-4pm; Sun, 12.30-4pm. Oct-Mar, Tue-Sat, 10am-4pm; Sun, 12.30-4pm; Closed Mon.
Directions: 4 miles east of Dundee city centre, off the A930.
